Paintallica

(Short Documentary, created in 3 days during the 2015 Witching Hour Festival)

Director/Producer/Co-DP/Editor

This short documentary follows Paintallica, an internationally known collaborative group of artist friends who have a mutual interest in building things and getting rowdy. In November of 2015, they were brought in by the first annual Witching Hour Festival, an Iowa City based festival with the mission of exploring the unknown, discussing the creative process, and presenting new work. In less than 72 hours, Paintallica created enough work to fill a small art gallery, complete with chainsaw tree trunk carvings amidst pedestrian mall traffic. Beginning with a session of drinking, drawing, and camaraderie, the Paintallica crew gets their ideas flowing by doodling then passing on the page. This collaborative creative approach eventually evolves into the finished art. While we zoomed in to catch their whole creative process as it unfolded, we simultaneously embarked into our own unknown and edited the film in less than 10 hours to premiere alongside their gallery installation as a part of the festival.
